NH Attorney General suspends state vehicle inspection program

The vehicle inspection program in New Hampshire is suspended. Commercial operators should ensure they comply with FMSCA annual inspections.

The New Hampshire Attorney General has issued major guidance on annual vehicle inspections.

The key points from the Attorney General’s guidance:

  • The vehicle inspection program is suspended until further notice.
  • Inspection stations will no longer be authorized to issue state inspection stickers, and vehicles will not be required to obtain an annual state inspection at this time.
  • Drivers are still responsible under current law to ensure that any vehicle driven in New Hampshire is safe to operate, regardless of the status of the inspection program.

What this means for Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) owners and operators, like NHMTA members, is that they should now begin complying with Federal Annual Inspections as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Please see the recent advisory from NHMTA regarding compliance with Federal Annual Inspection regulations.
